Before you call

Common questions

The things people ask us most, answered straight. If yours isn't here, just call — we don't mind the question.

Yes. We answer around the clock, every day of the year, including holidays. Breakdowns don't wait for business hours, so we don't keep them.

It depends on where you are and what's already running, so we'll give you a realistic window on the phone rather than a number that sounds good. In and around Gardiner, Augusta and the I-295 corridor we're usually close by.

You get a straight price on the call, before we leave. It depends on the service and the distance, and it doesn't change once the job is done. There's no late-night surcharge for calling at an awkward hour.

Cards and cash both work. Card payments are taken right at the vehicle, so you don't need to find an ATM while you're stranded.

No. We use proper lockout tools designed for the job, not coat hangers. Door frames, paint and weather seals stay intact. We'll ask to see your ID or registration first so we know the vehicle is yours.

Call us and explain the situation. A tire change needs a usable spare, so if you don't have one we'll tell you honestly what your options are rather than sending you a bill for a wasted trip.

Often, yes. A screw or nail in the tread itself is usually plug-able and much faster and cheaper than a full tire change. Punctures on the sidewall or too close to the edge aren't safe to plug, so we'll take a look and tell you straight which situation you're in before we start.

Yes. If a jump doesn't hold or the battery's simply worn out, we carry common replacement batteries on the truck and can swap it in on the spot — old one removed and disposed of properly, terminals cleaned, connections checked before we leave.

Crazy 8's is a light-duty roadside operation — lockouts, tire changes, tire plugs, jumpstarts, battery changes and fuel delivery. Our owner spent twelve years in towing, so call and describe what's happened. We'll tell you plainly whether we're the right people or point you to someone who is.

Fully insured. Your vehicle is covered from the moment we arrive until we leave.

Call anyway. Those six counties are where we work most, but our commitment isn't limited by a county line. If you're somewhere in Maine and stuck, we'd rather work out a solution than turn you away.

Three things: where you are, what happened, and what you're driving. A mile marker, nearest exit, cross street or a dropped pin all work fine. If you're on a highway shoulder, say so — we'll approach differently.

Get as far onto the shoulder as you safely can, put your hazards on, and stay in the vehicle with your seatbelt fastened if traffic is moving fast. Only get out on the side away from traffic. If you feel unsafe at any point, call 911 first.

You can send us a message through the contact page for anything that isn't urgent. For an actual emergency, always phone — it's the fastest way to reach us and get a truck moving.
